Mysterious Island

Smith visiting Mysterious Island. There is three races, traditionally known as Whites,Reds,and Pinks. Whites when interrogated, always tell the truth. Reds invariably lie. Pinks alternately lie and tell the truth, but there is no means of knowing wheter a Pink's answer to the first question he is asked will be veracious or not. The only certainty is that if his first answer is truthful, his second answer will be a lie and vice versa.
As Smith and his White guide went along Low Street they met a group of three natives. As friend Smith began to question one of them the guide told him in an aside that he was speaking to Mr.Pink, that the other two in the group were Mr.White and Mr.Red. He further stated that one of the three was a White, one a Red, and one a Pink, but that he did not know to which race they each belonged. "Mr.Pink,"said Smith, are you a member of the Pink, the White, or the Red race?"
"I am a Pink, sir."
"And Mr.White?"
"He is a member of the White race."
"So Mr.Red is a member of the Red race?"
"Obviously."
Is Mr.Red the Red? If not, what is he?
